Vinayaka Chaturthi falls on the Chaturthi tithi of the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of the moon) after Amavasya. On this day, devotees observe a fast from sunrise to moonrise. The fast concludes in the evening after performing the ritualistic worship of Lord Ganesha in his Varad Vinayaka form.

Significance Of Vinayaka Chaturthi Fast

Devotees believe that fasting and praying on Vinayaka Chaturthi grants them strength, wisdom, and good fortune. Lord Ganesha blesses his devotees by fulfilling their wishes and removing obstacles from their lives. The day is dedicated to the worship of Lord Ganesha in his Vinayaka form, symbolising auspiciousness and success.

Rituals Of Vinayaka Chaturthi Vrat

  • Begin the day with a bath and wear clean clothes.
  • Set up a worship space at home or visit a temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha.
  • Start the puja by chanting Ganesha mantras.
  • Offer flowers, incense, sandalwood, sweets, fruits, and betel leaves to the deity. Prepare Modaks, Ganesha’s favorite sweet, as an offering.
  • Chant mantras such as "Om Siddhivinayakaya Namah" or "Om Gan Ganapataye Namah" 108 times.
  • Light a diya and incense sticks, recite Ganesha’s stories, and perform the aarti.
  • In the evening, repeat the puja and distribute prasad among family and friends before breaking the fast with fruits or light refreshments.
