Prakash Parv 2025: Date, Significance, And Everything You Need To Know About This Day In January

Prakash Parv holds immense significance in Sikhism. Let’s explore why this special day is celebrated and on which date in January 2025 it will fall.

Prakash Parv 2025: The Sikh community celebrates Prakash Parv, also known as Prakash Utsav, with great enthusiasm. This festival marks the birth anniversaries of two prominent Sikh Gurus, Guru Nanak Dev Ji and Guru Gobind Singh Ji. In 2025, Prakash Parv dedicated to Guru Gobind Singh Ji will be observed on Monday, January 6.

Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the tenth and final Sikh Guru, was born on Paush Shukla Saptami according to the Hindu calendar. His birth is recorded in the Nanakshahi calendar as December 22, 1666, in Patna, Bihar. A spiritual leader, poet, and devoted guide, Guru Gobind Singh Ji became the Guru at the young age of ten.

Why Is It Called Prakash Parv?

The term "Prakash Parv" signifies the illumination of the soul by removing darkness, embracing truth, honesty, and service. Both Guru Nanak Dev Ji and Guru Gobind Singh Ji enlightened society with their wisdom and teachings, spreading the light of knowledge.

On this auspicious day, Gurdwaras are beautifully decorated, and various ceremonies such as Nagar Kirtan (processions), Ardas (prayers), Bhajan, Kirtan (devotional songs), and Prabhat Pheris (early morning processions) are held. Community kitchens (Langar) serve free meals to all, symbolizing equality and selfless service.

Legacy of Guru Gobind Singh Ji:

Guru Gobind Singh Ji symbolises bravery and courage. He was instrumental in establishing the Khalsa Panth on the occasion of Baisakhi, giving the clarion call “Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh” to inspire the Sikh community.

He dedicated his life to eradicating darkness and ignorance, advocating for righteousness and valor. To protect the Khalsa Panth, he valiantly fought against the Mughals and their allies. This spirit of selflessness and courage is why his birth anniversary is celebrated as Prakash Parv.

This January, as the Sikh community gathers to honor Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the celebrations will echo his teachings of unity, service, and enlightenment.
