On this day, one should wake up during Brahma Muhurat, bathe, and then wake Lord Vishnu by chanting mantras while blowing conch shells and ringing bells. Following this, prayers are offered to Him. In the evening, diyas are lit in homes and temples, and during Godhuli Vela, which is sunset time, the marriage of Shaligram Ji and Tulsi is performed.

Why Did Lord Vishnu Marry Tulsi?

There is a mythological story in which Lord Vishnu tricked his devotee, Vrinda, to defeat Jalandhar. After this, Vrinda cursed Vishnu, turning Him into stone. However, after the pleading of Goddess Lakshmi, He was restored to His original form, and Vrinda self-immolated. From her ashes, the Tulsi plant was born, and the tradition of her marriage to Shaligram began.
