The Mahakumbh, held every 12 years, is believed to wash away all sins for those who bathe in the Ganges. This sacred event brings immense spiritual merit, which is why the crowds continue to swell each day.

If you are planning to visit the Mahakumbh, here are 10 important things to keep in mind.

  • Best Time to Visit Mahakumbh: If you wish to witness the main rituals, it is advisable to visit during the royal bath (Shahi Snan). However, be prepared for huge crowds during this time. It is also best to avoid weekends (Saturdays and Sundays), as the crowd is larger on these days.
  • The royal baths (Shahi Snan) will take place on January 29, February 3, 12, and 26, 2025. On these dates, the bathing rituals of saints and sadhus take place first, followed by the general devotees’ dip in the sacred Sangam.
  • Booking Accommodation: If you plan to stay in a tent city, ensure you book your tent in advance. For booking, always use official websites to avoid falling victim to fraudsters. Book your tent through the Uttar Pradesh Tourism website at https://upstdc.co.in/Web/kumbh2025
  • Be Prepared for Walking: On the days of the royal bath, you may have to walk long distances, up to 10-15 kilometers, so it's best to carry only essential items and keep your baggage to a minimum.
  • Authorised Ghats: Always bathe at authorized ghats to ensure safety and cleanliness. For children and elderly individuals, make sure to wear identification bands or carry an ID card for easy identification.
  • Carry Necessary Documents: Keep your identification proof, hotel or lodge details, and booking information with you at all times. Also, carry medicines and food items for your convenience.
  • Lost and Found Services: In case you get separated from a family member or friend, visit the digital 'Lost and Found' center at the Prayagraj Mela. You can also call the helpline number 1920 for assistance.
  • Additional Places to Visit in Prayagraj: After taking a dip, don’t miss visiting the reclining Hanuman Ji statue, Veni Madhav Temple, Akshayvat Temple, Mankameshwar Temple, and Alopi Mata Temple.
  • Important Bathing Etiquette: Avoid using soap, shampoo, or detergent during the holy dip as it may affect the purity of the river.
  • The Mahakumbh is a sacred event that offers spiritual rewards to all who attend. By keeping these tips in mind, you can ensure a safe and meaningful experience.
