Kharmas 2024-2025: Why Auspicious Activities Are Avoided During This Period, Know Which Tasks Will Be Halted

Kharmas holds great significance in Hinduism. During this period, auspicious activities like weddings, housewarming ceremonies, and mundan rituals are considered prohibited.

Kharmas 2024-2025: In Hinduism, the period of Kharmas is considered inauspicious for performing any auspicious or ceremonial activities. The Kharmas period begins when the Sun enters a zodiac sign ruled by Jupiter. This year, Kharmas starts on December 15, 2024, when the Sun transits into Sagittarius (Dhanu Rashi), and it will conclude on January 14, 2025, when the Sun moves into Capricorn (Makar Rashi) during Makar Sankranti.

Kharmas 2024-2025 Dates and Timings:

According to the experts, Kharmas has begun on Sunday, December 15, 2024, with the Sun’s transition into Sagittarius at 7:35 AM during the Mula Nakshatra. The first lunar day (Pratipada) starts at 1:12 PM, and the Ardra Nakshatra begins at 2:34 PM.
The period will end on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, when the Sun transitions to Capricorn at 3:19 AM during the Punarvasu Nakshatra, marking the conclusion of Kharmas and the onset of Makar Sankranti.

Why Is Kharmas Considered Inauspicious?

Kharmas occurs when the Sun enters a zodiac sign ruled by Jupiter (Sagittarius or Pisces). According to astrologers, during this period, the Sun’s presence in Sagittarius reduces Jupiter’s auspiciousness. Sagittarius, being a fiery sign, disrupts the balance, making it unfavorable for auspicious activities. Additionally, seasonal changes are often observed during this time, which is believed to influence the outcomes of such rituals.

Any auspicious work performed during this period is less likely to yield desired results. Hence, this 30-day period is avoided for ceremonies and important undertakings.

Activities Prohibited During Kharmas:

During Kharmas, the following activities are traditionally avoided:

  • Weddings, engagements, housewarming ceremonies, and other auspicious rituals.
  • Initiating the construction or purchase of a new house.
  • Starting new ventures, businesses, or projects.
  • Making major investments or finalising significant deals.
