Ahoi Ashtami 2024: In Hinduism, every festival and fast holds its own unique importance. Ahoi Ashtami is observed during the month of Kartik which is a significant fast, especially for mothers, who observe it for the well-being and long life of their children. This fast is observed on the eighth day (Ashtami) of the waning phase (Krishna Paksha) of the Kartik month.

When Is Ahoi Ashtami In 2024?

In 2024, Ahoi Ashtami will be observed on Thursday, 24th October. On this day, the fast is concluded by sighting the stars in the evening sky.

Ahoi Ashtami 2024 Dates And Timings:

  • The Ahoi Ashtami Tithi (date) begins at 1:18 AM on Wednesday, 23rd October 2024, and ends at 1:58 AM on Thursday, 24th
  • October 2024. According to these timings, the fast will be observed on 24th October, Thursday.
  • Puja Muhurat: 5:42 PM to 6:59 PM, with a duration of 1 hour 17 minutes.
  • Time to sight the stars: 6:06 PM.
  • Moonrise timing on Ahoi Ashtami: 11:55 PM.

Ahoi Ashtami occurs four days after the Karva Chauth fast and is also known as Ahoi Athain. It is especially popular in North India, where mothers fast for the well-being of their children. Additionally, it is believed that childless women who observe this fast are blessed with offspring.

This fast, observed eight days before Diwali, falls on the Ashtami Tithi of the Kartik month. On this day, devotees worship Ahoi Mata to seek her blessings. Here is the detailed puja procedure for Ahoi Ashtami.

Ahoi Ashtami Puja Vidhi:

  • On this day, mothers and women wake up early and take a vow (Sankalp) to fast for their children's well-being.
  • In the evening, they perform the puja during the appropriate muhurat.
  • A picture or image of Goddess Ahoi is drawn on a wall for worship.
  • The offerings for the puja include 8 puris, 8 puas (sweet fritters), and halwa.
  • The story of Ahoi Ashtami is read or heard during the puja.
  • Special worship is also done for the Sei, an emblem of the deity, by offering halwa and seven stalks of Sarai (a type of reed).
  • After the puja, the Ahoi Ashtami aarti is performed.
  • The fast is broken upon sighting the stars in the sky.
