In the 2003 edition, Ganguly led India to victory in nine out of the 11 matches they played. His leadership saw India secure eight consecutive wins, a streak that was surpassed by Rohit during India's 160-run victory over the Netherlands in Bangalore on November 12.

In addition to surpassing Ganguly's prestigious record, Rohit aims to surpass Kane Williamson's achievement of scoring the most runs as a captain in a single edition of the ODI World Cup.

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson set the bar high with 578 runs in 10 matches during the 2019 World Cup. Currently, Rohit has accumulated 503 runs in nine matches, including one century and three fifties. To outdo Williamson's tally, he requires 76 runs against New Zealand in the upcoming match.
