The annual report ranks nations based on gross domestic product per person, healthy life expectancy and the opinions of residents. Norway is at 6th, followed by Sweden, Luxembourg, New Zealand and Austria in the order. “Our aim was two-fold, first to focus on the effects of COVID-19 on the structure and quality of people’s lives, and second to describe and evaluate how governments all over the world have dealt with the pandemic. “There is no doubt that the initial effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on mental ill-health symptoms were large, negative, and remarkably consistent across the data and studies discussed here. It is worth reiterating that these relate only to adults and solely to wealthy industrialised countries. These effects were worst in younger age groups and women, ethnic minorities, and those with pre-existing mental health problems, thus reinforcing many pre-existing mental health inequalities,” the report reveals about the impact of Coronavirus crisis.
