Amid the ongoing row over the alleged attack on West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee, a team of the Election Commission will visit Nandigram on Friday to take stock of the situation in the wake of the untoward incident.

The duo, who will first be visiting the place in Nandigram where the alleged incident took place, will also conduct a meeting with District Magistrate Vibhu Goel and Superintendent of Police Praveen Prakash besides other senior officials.

The meeting assumes significance as the Election Commission had earlier on Wednesday night sought detailed reports on the incident from West Bengal Chief Secretary Allapan Bandyopadhyay, the Special Police Observer and the Special General Observer.

This comes as the TMC chief is presently under observation at Kolkata’s SSKM Hospital. Earlier on Wednesday, she sustained injuries on her left leg and waist as she fell on the ground after she was allegedly pushed by unknown miscreants while campaigning for the assembly elections in Nandigram.

Preliminary medical tests conducted on the Chief Minister detected severe bone injuries in her left ankle and foot besides injuries in the right shoulder, forearm and neck.

The TMC supremo had on Wednesday filed her nomination to contest the ensuing assembly elections from the Nandigram seat where she is locked in a bitter contest against her one-time aide turned BJP rival Suvendu Adhikari.

The West Bengal Assembly polls will be held in eight phases beginning March 27 and ending on April 29. The results will be declared on May 2.
