Security Forces On Alert In Valley As 3 IEDs Found In 3 Days: 'Act Of Desperation...'
Security forces intensified searches in Kashmir after multiple IEDs were found and defused. However, the forces have said that this is an act of desperation.

After several Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) were found within 72 hours, the security forces cordoned off several areas and intensified searches across Kashmir. All the IEDs were detected and safely defused, preventing a massive tragedy, yet there is a rising concern that militants may be attempting to incite violence in the Valley.
A senior police official told ABP News that successful counter-terrorism operations in the Valley over the past few years have almost completely weakened militants' ability to confront security forces. He added that there is a lack of new recruits and infiltration has nearly stopped adding the rising use of IEDs is an act of desperation.
On Tuesday afternoon, a patrol team of security forces detected an IED in the Habdipora area of the Shopian district in south Kashmir. Soon after, the traffic was stopped in the area and the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was called to defuse the explosive.
Within a span of three days, security forces have recovered and defused three IEDs in Kashmir. On Sunday, one was defused in Kupwara’s forested area near the Line of Control (LoC) during a joint operation by the Indian Army, and the Border Security Force. On Monday, another IED was safely defused in the Reshipora Qaimoh area of Kulgam district.
‘Only Small Batches Of Terrorists Are Currently Active’
Intelligence agencies have reported that 76 terrorists are currently active in Jammu and Kashmir, including 59 foreign terrorists associated with groups like Hizbul Mujahideen (HM), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). The data shows a sharp drop in the number of active terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir, where a total of 91 terrorists were active in the same period in 2024.

Of the 59 active foreign terrorists, three are from Hizbul Mujahideen, 21 are from Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), and 35 are from Lashkar-e-Taiba. Among the 17 local terrorists, three are active in Jammu and 14 in the Valley.
Steady Decline Due To Intensified Counter-Terrorism Ops
Reportedly, the decline in the number of active militants in Jammu and Kashmir is a result of intensified counter-terrorism operations in the region, which heavily focused on tracking down and neutralising active militants.
Security forces have vowed to maintain strict vigilance as intelligence agencies focus on dismantling terrorist networks in the region. Although radicalisation via social media previously fuelled the rise of "homegrown" militants in Kashmir, targeted operations have significantly reduced recruitment.
