President Kovind, PM Modi Congratulate Nishad Kumar For Silver Medal Win In Tokyo Paralympics 2020

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Nishad and congratulated him on his win.

New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind on Sunday congratulated Nishad Kumar on winning the silver medal in the men’s high jump T47 event at the Paralympics Games in Tokyo.

“Congratulations to Nishad Kumar for winning the silver medal in men’s high jump at Tokyo #Paralympics. You have proved your excellence on the global stage, thereby bringing glory to India. My heartiest congratulations to you on your superlative performance and success,” read a statement on the official Twitter account of Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Nishad and congratulated him on his win.

Nishad on his part thanked Prime Minister Modi and also appreciated the continuous encouragement he gives to para-athletes, ANI reported.

Prime Minister Modi earlier in a tweet congratulated Nishad and called him “a remarkable athlete with outstanding skills and tenacity”.

“More joyful news comes from Tokyo! Absolutely delighted that Nishad Kumar wins the Silver medal in Men’s High Jump T47. He is a remarkable athlete with outstanding skills and tenacity. Congratulations to him. #Paralympics,” he tweeted.

Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur also congratulated Nishad on his win and for creating a new Asian Record with the effort.

“Nishad jumps to glory Second place medal! Congratulations Champ @nishad_hj! We’ve just won Flag of India 2nd medal  at #Tokyo2020  #Paralympics  ! • High Jump T47 Final • 2.06m jump which equals Asian Record set by him in 2021 #Praise4Para  #Cheer4India,” he tweeted.

Union Human Resource and Development (HRD) Minister Prakash Javadekar too congratulated the Indian high jumper.

“Indian high jumper Nishad Kumar won silver medal in #TokyoParalympics. Many congratulations to Nishad ji. The country is proud of you,” he wrote on the micro-blogging platform in Hindi.

Uniion Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on his part said Nishad’s silver medal win is a moment of pride for the nation.

“#NishadKumar ji has made the country proud by winning a silver medal in Tokyo @paralympics. My heartiest congratulations to you on this wonderful victory. Your hard work and dedication is an inspiration to the youth of the country,” he tweeted in Hindi.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as well congratulated Nishad for the “stellar performance”.

“Another #Silver for India on National Sports Day. Congratulations to Nishad Kumar for the stellar performance. You’ve done our country proud. #TokyoParalympics,” he tweeted.

21-year-old Nishad cleared 2.06m to win the silver and set an Asian record.
