PM Modi Writes To Imran Khan On Pakistan National Day; Says India Wants 'Cordial Relations'

The letter comes as second consecutive message by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to his Pakistani counterpart within a span of few days. 

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday wrote a letter to Imran Khan to extend best wishes to the neighbouring country as it celebrates Pakistan Day on 23rd March. 

Sources confirmed ABP News, PM Modi in his letter said that India wishes for "cordial relations" with Pakistan.

"India desires cordial relations with the people of Pakistan. For this, an environment of trust, devoid of terror and hostility," the letter by PM Modi read.

The letter comes as a second consecutive message by the Prime Minister to his Pakistani counterpart within a span of few days. 

Last week, PM Modi extended a wish to Imran Khan for "speedy recovery" soon after the later tested positive for Coronavirus.

Every year, the neighouring country celebrates March 23 as its National Day as on the same day in 1956, Pakistan became a republic adopting its first Constitution.

The day is a national holiday in Pakistan as it also commemorates the Lahore Resolution passed on 23 March 1940.

However, this time around the celebration have been curtailed on the backdrop of third Coronavirus wave in the country. As per reports by Pakistani media, all event commemorating the day was held while ensuring strict compliance of Covid-19 protocols.

"On this Pakistan Day, we pay homage to the founding fathers of Pakistan whose services and sacrifices led to the creation of a separate homeland for the Muslims of the sub-continent," Pakistan President Dr. Arif Alvi said.

Even Imran Khan reaffirmed his commitment to making Pakistan a humane, progressive and prosperous state.
