Author and philanthropist Sudha Murty recently responded to her husband and Infosys co-founder of Infosys Narayana Murthy’s '70-hour workweek' comment, saying that when people are passionate about their work, time is never a limitation.
In an interview with NDTV, the Rajya Sabha MP reflected on the early days of Narayana Murthy’s career, explaining that his commitment to working more than 70 hours a week played a crucial role in turning the vision of building Infosys with minimal funds into a reality.
In 2023, Narayana Murthy suggested that young Indians should aim for a 70-hour workweek to increase productivity which led to a lot of debate among people.
Sudha Murty stressed that there was no "magic wand" to transform Infosys into what it is today, stating, "It was sheer hard work, part of luck, part of the correct timing or being in the correct place, everything is there.”

Focus On Building Infosys
Talking about her personal life, Sudha Murty shared that while Narayana Murty focused on building Infosys, she managed the household, cared for their children, and started teaching computer science at a college. She encouraged her husband to “take care of Infosys.”
"I made that decision, and I also decided there was no point in complaining and telling your husband, ‘Oh, you are not there,’ because he’s doing a bigger job," she explained.
Elaborating on the concept of time, she added, "God has given 24 hours to all, whether you are rich or poor, beautiful or ugly. How you want to spend it is left to you. And if you want to do anything passionately, it requires time. And if you are passionate about your work, then your partner should support it."
