Amazon Launches Non-Refundable Rs 49 Processing Fee; Here's Everything You Need To Know

The processing fee applies to all customers, including Prime members, with no exceptions. However, those using bank discounts of less than Rs 500 will not incur this charge

Amazon has introduced a Rs 49 processing fee for customers using Instant Bank Discounts (IBD) of Rs 500 or more, reducing the overall savings from these offers. Effective from Friday, this fee applies to all users, including Prime members, and is non-refundable even if an order is canceled or returned.

This new policy brings Amazon in line with its competitor, Flipkart, which already charges a similar fee. According to Amazon, the fee is designed to cover the costs associated with the "aggregation, management, and processing" of bank discount offers on its platform.

As a result, customers must now factor in this additional charge when calculating their savings. For example, a Rs 6,000 purchase with a Rs 500 bank discount will now cost Rs 5,549 instead of Rs 5,500.

The processing fee applies to all customers, including Prime members, with no exceptions. However, those using bank discounts of less than Rs 500 will not incur this charge.

Who Is Required To Pay This Fee?

  • Any customer using a bank discount of Rs 500 or more.
  • Prime members are not exempt from the fee — it applies to all users.
  • Discounts below Rs 500 will not incur this charge.

According to Amazon's help center, the fee is non-refundable in all cases, including cancellations or returns. This policy change could impact consumer shopping behavior, especially for those whose discounts slightly exceed Rs 500. It may prompt them to adjust cart totals or reconsider payment methods to maximise savings.

What Happens If You Cancel Or Return The Order?

The Rs 49 processing fee remains non-refundable, even if the order is canceled or returned. Once applied, the fee cannot be reimbursed.

Why Is Amazon Imposing This Fee?

Amazon states that the fee is designed to cover the costs of managing and processing bank discount offers. Essentially, it serves as a service charge for handling these discounts.
