'North Will Make Us Secondary Citizens': Telangana CM Reddy Lashes Out At Centre In Stalin's Delimitation Meet

Delimitation Meet: The first Joint Action Committee (JAC) meeting on the Centre’s proposed delimitation of parliamentary constituencies, convened by Tamil Nadu’s ruling DMK, saw strong opposition from leaders of southern states. Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy voiced concerns that population-based delimitation would diminish the political influence of the southern region, calling it a move that could turn them into “secondary citizens.”

Addressing the gathering, CM Reddy accused the BJP of implementing a "policy of demographic penalty" arguing that high-performing states should not be punished for effectively controlling their populations.

"We are one country, and we respect it. But we cannot accept this proposed delimitation because it will politically limit us. It will punish us for being performing states. We have to stop BJP from implementing any unfair delimitation," Reddy stated, as per PTI.

"In case of population based delimitation, "north will make us secondary citizens," alleged Telangana CM.

Rejecting the idea of linking parliamentary seats to population growth, he firmly added, "Do not increase Lok Sabha seat numbers. South will not accept population-based delimitation."

Kerala CM Calls Delimitation A Political Move

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan echoed these concerns likening the impending delimitation to a “sword of Damocles” hanging over the southern states. He accused the BJP-led central government of pushing the process without consulting stakeholders.

"This sudden move is not driven by Constitutional principles or democratic imperatives," but by narrow political interests," he asserted, as per PTI.

Vijayan warned that delimitation based on Census data would inevitably increase parliamentary seats in northern states while reducing representation for the south, further consolidating BJP’s influence in northern India.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin hinted that the fight against the proposed delimitation might not be confined to political opposition alone but could also be pursued through legal avenues.
