Disparity In MCD & Delhi Govt's Covid Death Toll; The Blame Game Continues

All three MCDs have recorded 2098 cremations of Covid-19 patients, Chairperson of the Standing Committee of NDMC said on Thursday.

New Delhi: Delhi's civic body, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Thursday released figures pertaining to the cremation of patients who lost their lives to the novel coronavirus. As per the MCD's figures, as many as 2,098 corpses of Covid-19 patients have been cremated by its various divisions. Responding to the allegations made by MCD, Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain slammed the civic body and said the COVID-19 death audit committee is "working impartially", and this was "not a time for blame-game but to work together". Stark Contrast in Offical Delhi figures and MCD toll

According to the MCD's three divisions, namely SDMC (South), NDMC (North), and EDMC (East) have reported 1080, 976, and 42 cremations of coronavirus patients, respectively. While the data released by the Delhi government health department on Thursday shows the total number of coronavirus cases in the city stood at 32,810 with 984 deaths. At a press conference held at Civic Centre, North Delhi Mayor Avtar Singh, East Delhi Mayor Anju Kamalkant, and chairpersons of the standing committee of NDMC, SDMC, and EDMC shared the challenges faced by the corporations in the time of the coronavirus pandemic. "Earlier also the Kejriwal government had reported less death when our tally from crematoria and burial sites had shown nearly three times of the official toll", MCD official said.
