Amit Shah's 'Son' Demands Rs 5 Lakh From Uttarakhand MLA, Arrested

During interrogation, Pant confessed that he had planned to extort money from the MLAs as he wanted to lead a luxurious life. He was arrested from Delhi by the Uttarakhand Police.

An Uttarakhand man was arrested for posing as Union Home Minister Amit Shah's son Jay Shah, chairman of the International Cricket Council, and demanding Rs 5 lakh from a local BJP MLA. Uttarakhand police said that apart from the accused Priyanshu Pant, two others were identified for their involvement, out of which one was taken into custody. The other suspect is currently on the run.

Haridwar Senior Superintendent of Police Pramod Singh Dobal issued a statement in which he said that Pant was arrested in Delhi on Monday, February 17 while Uvesh Ahmed was held in Rudrapur in Uttarakhand's Udham Singh Nagar district, India Today reported. 

Dobal said that a search operation is underway to nab the third accused Gaurav Nath who is on the run.

The accused demanded Rs 5 lakh from BJP MLA from Haridwar's Ranipur Adesh Chauhan. Besides this, the three accused also tried to extort money from Rudrapur MLA Shiv Arora and Nainital MLA Sarita Arya by promising to make them ministers, the report said citing the top police officer.

Ranipur MLA Chauhan had received a call from an unknown number on Sunday evening from a caller who identified himself as Amit Shah's son Jay Shah, demanding Rs 5 lakh donation to the party fund. He was also threatened of defamation on social media by the caller when he expressed his doubts on the demand. 

Following the call, the public relations officer of the legislator registered a complaint against the caller, on the basis of which the police launched a probe.

The Haridwar SP said that police teams tracked the mobile phone's CDR, IMEI numbers, and locations. Several locations were raided in Ghaziabad and Delhi, following which Pant was arrested in Delhi. The mobile used in the crime was also recovered from his possession.

During interrogation, Pant confessed that the three of them had planned to extort money from the MLAs as they wanted to lead a luxurious life.
