New Delhi: Legendary musician Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan passed away at his residence on Sunday afternoon at the age of 89. He breathed his last at 12.37 pm at his Bandra home reportedly. He was an Indian classical musician belonging to the Rampur-Sahaswan Gharana. Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan has received several awards and accolades during his lifetime including the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan.
Recently, Ustad Mustafa Khan’s daughter-in-law Namrata Gupta Khan took to her unofficial Facebook account and shared the news of her father-in-law’s passing away. She wrote while sharing, “With a very heavy heart, I inform you all that my father,-in law the pillar of our family and a legend of our nation, Padma Vibhushan Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan sahab has left for his heavenly abode few mins ago. Inna Lillah Hi Wa Inna Elaihi Ra’jaooun! May Allah grant him the highest place in Jannat Ul Firdaus Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan”.
Lata Mangeshkar also took to her Twitter and shared the news. The legendary singer wrote, “Mujhe abhi abhi ye dukhad khabar mili hai ki mahan shastriya gayak Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan Saheb is duniya mein nahi rahe. Ye sunke mujhe bahut dukh hua. Wo gayak to acche the hee par insaaan bhi bahut acche the.”

A.R. Rahman also paid a tribute to Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan on his Twitter. He wrote, “The sweetest teacher of all ..May the Ghafoor-ur-Rahim give you a special place in the next world #UstadGhulamMustafa”.

Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan’s daughter-in-law Namrata also told PTI, “Today morning he was fine. We had a 24 hour nurse at home. During his massage he vomited and I ran immediately his eyes were shut and he was breathing slowly. I tried connecting to doctors and when they came he had already died.”
