‘Scream’ Beats ‘Spider-Man No Way Home’ At The US Box Office With $30.6 Million Debut

‘Scream’ is a version of the 1996 version of the film which goes by the same name. It was released on the 14th of January and fits in the horror genre.

Helmed by Paramount Pictures, ‘Scream’ has overtaken ‘Spider-Man No Way Home’ at the box office. The movie started with ticket sales worth $30.6 million over the weekend, according to studio estimates on Sunday.

‘Scream’ is a version of the 1996 version of the film which goes by the same name. It was released on the 14th of January and fits in the horror genre. It is the fifth film in this franchise as well as a reboot that introduces a new and younger cast. The film has gained an advantage of Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend release. Paramount Pictures has estimated that the collections will total at $35 million including Monday’s grosses.

The film is considered to be the first box-office success in the US in over a year. With this Hollywood is expecting to return to weekly stability at the movie theatres. The recent surge in Covid-19 across the globe has impacted the film industry and has delayed plans for various releases.

Marvel’s ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ slipped to the second-place grossing at $20.8 million in its fifth week of release. Producer Sony Pictures have predicted that the film will earn another $5.2 million on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. This will help the film reach a domestic copulative of $703.9 million in total.

It will move to the fourth place leaving behind ‘Black Panther’. The first three places are held by ‘Avatar’ ($760 million). ‘Avengers: Endgame’($858 million) and  'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' ($936 million). The new film from the Spider-Man franchise has grossed at $1.6 billion, globally.
