Pakistani Actor Anoushey Ashraf Supports Shaan After He Faces Backlash For Eid Post

Singer Shaan Mukherji faced flak after wishing his Instagram fans Eid Mubarak last week.

New Delhi: After wishing his Instagram fans Eid Mubarak last week, singer Shaan Mukherji faced flak. The musician, who is extremely active on social media, uploaded a video to defend his Eid post after receiving backlash for posting a picture of himself wearing a skullcap while wishing people.

He urged people to have compassion and refrain from attacking those like him, who respect all religions, and to show compassion instead. Now, Pakistani actor Anoushey Ashraf has defended Shaan.

Anoushey Ashraf, a Pakistani actor and VJ, expressed her regret on Tuesday for the response the Indian artist had received for his Eid wishes.  Sharing a news article, she tweeted, “Dear Shaan, we can't wish Merry Christmas without getting hate too. It's how zealots keep the fear, power and authority over us. They interpret religion as a divider of people and we follow like blind sheep. Sorry for the backlash. Eid mubarak to every human. May artists always bring us closer.”

Earlier, Shaan had shared the photo on April 22, along with a caption that read, "Eid mubarak to you and your family."

Shaan shared a video of himself on Instagram in which he responded to the controversy without apologising for his post after some social media users questioned his Eid post and said that as a Hindu, he shouldn't have given Eid wishes. The artist continued to criticise people's hypocrisy by pointing out that he had previously posted pictures of himself at the Golden Temple, where he had covered his head in keeping with Sikh customs and traditions, and had not faced any backlash for it.
