John Abraham Calls Award Functions ‘Circus’; Says ‘It’s Comical To See Actors Dance And Then Collect An Award’

Though John Abraham is a well-established name in the film industry, he has been witnessed maintaining distance from award functions. Read on to know the reason.

New Delhi: Actor and producer John Abraham set off his career as a model for various advertisements and companies. He made his first Bollywood debut opposite Bipasha Basu in the 2003 movie ‘Jism’ and soon became the heartthrob of the Hindi film industry. His first commercial success came with the 2004 movie ‘Dhoom’, where he portrayed the role of the main antagonist.

Since then, the ‘Mumbai Saga’ actor has come a long way in his career as he starred in several commercial and critically successful movies including ‘Garam Masala’, ‘Race 2’, ‘Taxi No. 9211’, ‘Dostana’ and others. Though the ‘Madras Cafe’ actor is a well-established name in the industry, he has been witnessed maintaining distance from award functions. He recently revealed the reason for this while speaking to IANS and said that he doesn’t ‘respect’ them.

John told IANS, “I totally don't respect awards. It's a joke. It's comical to see actors dance and then collect an award and make funny jokes.”

“I feel what they are doing is not necessarily wrong or what I am doing is wrong. But I am on this side of the fence. I am quiet about it. I just don't go for these functions. I will be a joker going to a circus, it will be demeaning and I don't want to do that”, further added the actor.

On March 19, 2021, John Abraham and Emraan Hashmi’s film ‘Mumbai Saga’ hit the theatres. The actor even turned a ticket-seller for the movie and urged the audience to watch the movie on the big screens.

Meanwhile, on the professional front, John will be next seen starring in ‘Satyamev Jayate 2’, ‘Ek Villain Returns’, ‘Attack’ and ‘Pathan’.
