B-Town lauds 'India's pride' Dipa Karmakar

New Delhi: Though Indian trailblazing gymnast Dipa Karmakar missed out on an Olympic medal by a whisker, her stellar performance at the world's biggest stage has filled the B-Town with awe.   From Amitabh Bachchan to Karan Johar, all took to their respective Twitter handles to laud the 23-year-old gymnast.   "#DipaKarmakar .. the pride of India .. your story is what compels us to do better ... and we will !! Many congratulations !!" wrote Amitabh Bachchan.   "You may have lost but you've won a million hearts and inspired a lot more to walk your path. Cheers to your spirit #Dipa Karmakar! #Proud," tweeted Akshay Kumar.   "#DipaKarmakar you inspire each and every Indian. Thank you for being that shining star," wrote Riteish Deshmukh.   "Wow what an inspiration sports is #DipaKarmakar you inspired every Indian today.This is just your beginning.Your are an Olympian champ," tweeted Arjun Rampal.   "Victory or loss,Never feel sorry 4doing ur best! India is proud. But more importantly I wish 4 u 2 b proud of urself! #DipaKarmakar #Respect," wrote Hrithik Roshan.   "Pride pride and only Pride!!!!! You never have to apologize for your irreplaceable spirit! #DipaKarmakar," wrote Karan Johar.   "Its not about winning medals. Its about breaking through all stereotypes n proving u are there with the best, u inspire us all #DipaKarmakar," said filmmaker Sekhar Kapur.   "Freedom means to go live ur dreams n make them come true, #DipaKarmakar u ve taught an entire nation about freedom #HappyIndependenceDay," shared Neha Dhupia.   "#DipaKarmakar continues to be an inspiration.Thank u for ur story...There's always next time really proud to say that she's from my country," tweeted 'Mohenjo Daro' fame Pooja Hegde.   "Hope you all know Dipa Karmakar. Who is from Agartala and Agartala is in Tripura..And Tripura is in North East and is part of INDIA," shared filmmaker Shoojit Sircar.   Dipa missed out on an Olympic medal by 0.150 points despite successfully executing the dangerous Produnova vault (15.266) in her second attempt to secure 15.066 points overall.   Her fourth-place finish in the individual vault final at the Rio Olympics is India's best performance at an international event till date.   The Tripura-girl, who vaulted into limelight with her death defying leap, had earlier created history when she became the first Indian gymnast to enter the final on her debut at the quadrennial multi-discipline games after finishing eighth in the qualifying round.
