Veteran actor Arun Govil, immortalised in Indian television history for playing Lord Ram in Ramanand Sagar’s 'Ramayana', has sparked a heated conversation with his recent remarks about Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming cinematic adaptation of the epic. In a candid interview, Govil questioned whether today’s actors – even the most prominent stars – are truly suited to portray Lord Ram on screen.

I don’t think in our lifetime someone should try to recreate Ramayan,” he said. His comments seemed particularly directed at the trend of high-budget adaptations following the controversial reception of Adipurush, in which Prabhas played Lord Ram.

Addressing the current generation of actors, he added, “As far as some actor playing Ram (is concerned), all the available actors, all the stars at this moment – I don’t think anyone is suitable. Maybe you can find someone outside the industry.”
