Filmmaker’s Wife And Daughter Commit Suicide By Setting Themselves On Fire In Mumbai!

The mother and daughter allegedly set themselves ablaze in their apartment at on Monday afternoon.

Filmmaker Santosh Gupta's wife Asmita and daughter Srishti allegedly committed suicide by immolating themselves at their home in Mumbai’s suburban Andheri's DN Nagar, police said on Wednesday.

The mother and daughter allegedly set themselves ablaze in their apartment at D N Nagar in Andheri (west) on Monday afternoon and the matter came to light when neighbours alerted the fire brigade, he said.

As per initial reports, 55-year-old Asmita took the drastic step as she was suffering from a prolonged kidney ailment. The couple's daughter Srishti killed herself due to the trauma of her mother's illness.

The duo was rushed to Cooper Hospital, where Asmita was declared dead on arrival, while Srishti, who suffered 70 per cent burns, succumbed to her injuries at Airoli National Burns Centre on Tuesday, the official said.

"We have registered two different accidental death reports in the case and further investigation is underway," senior inspector Bharat Gaikwad from DN Nagar police station said.

Filmmaker Santosh Gupta is known for directing small budgets films like Faraar, Romi the hero and Aaj kie Aurat. He is yet to react on the entire matter.
