Diljit Dosanjh Gets Green Light to Finish Border 2, But Future Projects Still Banned
Diljit Dosanjh will continue in Border 2 as FWICE clears the shoot, but the ban on his future films remains. T-Series cites production constraints as reason.

Despite controversy surrounding his involvement, actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh has confirmed his continued presence in 'Border 2'. The news comes as a breather for the film’s producers after heated debates following his casting in 'Sardaar Ji' 3. With the project nearing completion, industry bodies have allowed the makers to proceed, but not without strict limitations on Diljit's future film work.
Instagram Post Ends Exit Rumours
Amid swirling speculation that Dosanjh might be replaced, the actor shared a behind-the-scenes video from the 'Border' 2 set on Tuesday. The move appeared to silence rumours about his removal and served as a reassurance to his fans.
T-Series, the film’s co-producers, held multiple discussions with the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) to address the concerns. “They told us the film is nearing completion. They also informed us that with Diljit only two-three days of work was left,” confirmed FWICE president BN Tiwari. He added, “Since the film doesn’t star any Pakistani artist and is a patriotic movie, we agreed and allowed them to go ahead.”
Reshoot Not Feasible, Says IFTDA
Ashoke Pandit, president of the Indian Film and Television Directors’ Association (IFTDA), echoed the production challenges of a recast. “T Series said it would not have been possible to change the cast for them. Not just because of the losses, but mainly because it’s a big cast of actors… matching dates of every actor for a re-shoot would mean the film will get pushed,” he explained.
He added that while the ongoing ban on Diljit remains, the association did not want to “harass producers” and hence allowed the film to wrap up. “But the non-cooperation with Diljit continues,” Pandit noted.
Shoot at NDA Greenlit, But Future Projects Banned
FWICE had earlier appealed to the Defence and Home Ministries to revoke permission for the 'Border 2' shoot at Pune’s National Defence Academy due to Diljit’s presence. However, Pandit confirmed this demand has now been withdrawn: “The shoot can continue.”
That said, Tiwari clarified that the clearance is limited to 'Border 2' only. “All new projects starring Diljit will be opposed, especially where a change in cast is possible. Director Imtiaz Ali’s next film, which features Diljit, can’t go ahead if he stars in it,” he stated.
While 'Border 2' survives the storm, Dosanjh's future in Hindi cinema remains uncertain, with industry unions holding firm on their decision to bar him from new collaborations.
