Deepika Padukone Opens Up About Her Depression Journey On Meghan Markle's Podcast
On the podcast, Deepika opened up about the negativity she had to face when she first spoke about mental health and activism.
New Delhi: Deepika Padukone joined Meghan Markle on her Archetypes podcast recently and discussed mental health. The 'Gehraiyaan' actress told the Duchess of Sussex that after she opened up about her battle with depression, many thought she was promoting a film related to the issue or a medication advertised by a pharmaceutical company. In 2015, Deepika opened up about battling depression and how she sought treatment for it.
On the podcast, Deepika opened up about the negativity she had to face when she first spoke about mental health and activism. Stating that she had expected some of it, most people had warmly embraced the fact that she opened up about her struggle.
“It feels like this huge burden was lifted off their shoulders. That finally, someone acknowledged the fact that okay, there is something that is such a thing as mental illness but with everything good that you do they’ll always be sort of that.And so, there were a bunch of people who felt that either I was doing this to promote a movie or they thought that I was being paid by a pharmaceutical company. And there were articles. They thought I was being paid by a pharmaceutical company and you know that I’m now going to start advertising for some sort of medication." Deepika Padukone said on the podcast.
Deepika also mentioned that she was glad of having experienced that phase in her life now that she has become a stronger person. Having said this, Deepika added that after having gone through a 'life and death' situation, she feels that life has a bigger purpose which goes beyond her work and the money that comes with it.
Deepika further added that she now values the little things in her life like hugging her sister and having late night conversations with her husband Ranveer Singh.
Meanwhile, Deepika was last seen in 'Gehrayiaan' alongside Ananya Panday, Siddhant Chaturvedi. Deepika also has 'Pathaan' with Shah Rukh Khan and John Abraham and 'Fighter' with Hrithik Roshan. Deepika also appeared in a brief cameo in 'Brahmastra'. The actress also is the founder of the mental health organization called Live, Love, Laugh.
