Zakir Hussain is survived by his wife, Antonia Minnecola, and daughters Anisa Qureshi and Isabella Qureshi.

About Zakir Hussain

Born on March 9, 1951, into a family of musical legends, Zakir Hussain was the eldest son of the renowned tabla virtuoso Ustad Alla Rakha. A child prodigy, he began his professional career at just 12 years old in the realm of Indian classical music. By the age of 18, he was already gracing international stages with his exceptional talent.

Zakir Hussain's influence extended beyond classical music. He collaborated with some of the greatest names across various genres, including George Harrison, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, and jazz legend Herbie Hancock. His versatility earned him recognition worldwide.

Throughout his illustrious career spanning six decades, Zakir Hussain received numerous accolades, including four Grammy Awards. He won three at the 66th Grammy Awards earlier this year. His contributions to music were further honored with the Padma Shri (1988), Padma Bhushan (2002), and the Padma Vibhushan (2023).
