Ricky Kej Gets Fourth Grammy Award Nomination: 'Hope It Inspires To Experience Music Not Just As Entertainment'

Indian musicians Ricky Kej and Anoushka Shankar have garnered Grammy nominations for the 67th Grammy Awards. The Recording Academy announced the nominations on Friday. This category highlights albums that feature over 75% of new vocal or instrumental recordings in the new age genre.

Ricky Kej and Anoushka Shankar get Grammy nominations

Sitarist and composer Anoushka Shankar joins Kej in this category with her album 'Chapter II: How Dark It Is Before Dawn'. Other contenders include 'Warriors of Light' by Radhika Vekaria and 'Triveni', a collaboration between musician Chandrika Tandon, flautist Wouter Kellerman, and cellist Eru Matsumoto.

Additionally, Shankar earned another Grammy nomination for her work on Jacob Collier’s song 'A Rock Somewhere', which also features Indian vocalist Varijashree Venugopal, a first-time Grammy nominee. This track is competing in the Best Global Music Performance category, which honors new vocal or instrumental global music tracks.

Ricky Kej first won a Grammy in 2015 for 'Winds of Samsara' in the Best New Age Album category. He later received two more Grammy awards alongside Stewart Copeland, former drummer of The Police, for their collaborative album 'Divine Tides' in 2022 and 2023, including an award for Best Immersive Audio Album.

On his latest nomination, Kej shared, “I am honoured to have 'Break of Dawn' recognised by The Recording Academy. This album is deeply personal, reflecting my belief in music as a transformative force for the health and well-being of our planet and its people. I hope it inspires all of us to experience music not just as entertainment, but as a source of comfort and healing.”

The 2025 Grammy Awards ceremony is set to take place on February 2, 2025, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, promising a memorable night for international and Indian nominees alike.
