Karisma’s Father Randhir Kapoor Never Approved of Her Marriage To Sunjay Kapur: ‘Everyone Knows Our Credentials’
Randhir Kapoor openly criticised Karisma Kapoor’s ex-husband Sunjay Kapur, calling him “a third-class man” and saying he never approved of their marriage. Here's what he said.

Karisma Kapoor, a celebrated star of the 90s, was once set to marry into Bollywood royalty. In 2002, her engagement to Abhishek Bachchan made headlines, positioning her as the future bahu of the Bachchan clan. However, the fairytale came to a sudden halt just months later when the engagement was called off.
By 2003, Karisma had moved on and married Delhi-based businessman Sunjay Kapur, a prominent industrialist. But what began as a promising chapter quickly unraveled into a stormy union that would end in a high-profile legal battle and an eventual divorce in 2016.
Karisma and Sunjay’s Marriage Ended in Turmoil
Karisma and Sunjay's marriage, though blessed with two children, couldn’t withstand the growing cracks. Their separation and custody fight were widely covered by the media. Karisma accused Sunjay of domestic violence, while he countered by alleging that she had only married him for financial gain.
The allegations stunned many, and the divorce proceedings dragged on until a settlement was reached in 2016.
Randhir Kapoor’s Candid Take on the Marriage
Karisma’s father, veteran actor Randhir Kapoor, had made his disapproval of the match very clear. In an interview with Hindustan Times in 2016, Randhir didn’t mince words: “Sunjay is a third-class man… Everyone knows our credentials. We are Kapoors. We don’t need to run after anyone’s money.”
He further added, “I never wanted Karisma marrying him. He never cared for his wife. He has been giving bull*** to her and living with another woman. The entire Delhi knows how he is.”*
