Paresh Rawal Slams Ranveer Singh’s Method Acting In 'Padmaavat', Ignites Online Debate
A recently surfaced video of Paresh Rawal criticising Ranveer Singh's method acting has ignited an online debate.

New Delhi: In Sanjay Leela Bhansali's ‘Padmaavat’, Ranveer Singh plays the role of Alauddin Khilji. Singh has been open about his method acting technique for a long time. According to the actor's several interviews, the persona stuck with him long after the shooting ended. In spite of his best efforts, renowned actor Paresh Rawal has criticised Ranveer Singh, calling his approach "wrong".
On Reddit, an old interview with Paresh Rawal resurfaced, in which the actor criticised Ranveer Singh's performance as Khilji. In the video, Rawal criticised the actor's technique, saying that actors shouldn't sacrifice themselves for a part. He said, "Agar aap aisa karte ho na bhaiya, toh ye galat tarika hai. Aapke andar saakshi bhaav hona chahiye. Accha, mujhe ek baat bataiye, aap jitna bhi daaru pee lo, maa ya biwi ke palang pe jaake hi so jaate ho. Woh saakshi bhaav hai na?" (“If you follow such a process, then it is wrong. You must have a witness attitude in it. No matter how much alcohol you consume, you still go home to your mother or wife. That is the witness attitude, right?”)
Rawal continued, "Yeh galat hai ki main role mein ghus gaya tha… toh kisi ko chaku maar doge aap?" (“It is wrong to say that you got so deep into a role that you could even stab someone?”)

Mixed Reaction from Netizens
Some internet users have sided with Paresh Rawal in his criticism of the video, while others have defended Ranveer Singh's method acting technique. A commenter said, "As per Jim, RS couldn’t remember his lines.. what kind of acting is that?"
A Reddit user made the following remark: "Ranveer exaggerated, it's not only Paresh Rawal even Jim Sarbh had passed some comment, right?"
Some fans also defended Singh by pointing out that every actor works in his own special way. A use said, “Everyone has a different process. Vicky and Askhay Khanna refused to meet each beforehand and finally met in costume on shoot day.”
Many Redditors spoke out against Rawal's view and said the two approaches could coexist. "What kind of an explanation was this?" said one user.
