Pankaj Tripathi Shares Why He Took A Year-Long Acting Break After Father’s Death
Pankaj Tripathi shared that his decision to step back from acting wasn’t a formal announcement but a deeply personal choice.

New Delhi: Actor Pankaj Tripathi, who is renowned for letting his art speak louder than words, has talked about the very personal reasons he has been avoiding the spotlight and red carpets for the last 12 months. In an exclusive interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, the 'Mirzapur' actor discussed how the death of his father caused him to reflect and decide to take a hiatus from acting in order to recover psychologically and physically.
Pankaj Tripathi shared, “After my father’s demise, I went on an introspective journey. I did not sign a film for one year, and I didn’t announce that I was taking a break.”
He admitted that the unannounced break from work following his father's passing was a time he used to focus on healing and self-care. He said, “I took time off to work on myself and heal, physically and mentally. That’s why I’ve lost weight. I work out for three hours a day, six days a week. I also travelled — trips that I’d been putting off for a long time.”
During this hiatus, Tripathi admitted to feeling disconnected from his craft, even finding himself bored and counting down the days on sets. “There was a time when I was counting days on projects, just waiting for them to end. And I thought this can’t be right. I love the profession so much. I've made so many sacrifices to get here, and if I’m spending my days just waiting for shoots to wrap, then something’s wrong. That’s why I took a break,” the actor added.
