Manoj Bajpayee Says DiCaprio ‘Tries Too Hard’ On Screen

Manoj Bajpayee says Leonardo DiCaprio “tries too hard” in his performances, adding that the actor’s over-preparation sometimes makes the acting feel forced. Read full quote.

National Award-winning actor Manoj Bajpayee recently stirred up discussion online with his candid take on Hollywood icon Leonardo DiCaprio. While DiCaprio is widely celebrated for his versatility and intense screen presence, Bajpayee expressed a contrasting opinion, suggesting that the acclaimed actor might be overexerting himself in his performances.

'The Family Man' star made the comments from a 2024 interview with Chalchitra Talks, where he discussed a range of topics, including international cinema and acting techniques. The clip where Bajpayee discusses DiCaprio has been going viral online. When the interviewer admitted he wasn’t particularly impressed by DiCaprio’s acting, Manoj echoed the sentiment without hesitation.

Manoj Agrees with Criticism of DiCaprio

In response to the host’s remark, Manoj said, “He works very hard. DiCaprio ka, aap bilkul sahi keh rahe ho. I don't blame you for thinking that way, ye thought mere mein bhi bohot baar aya hain.”

He further elaborated on his thoughts, sharing that he had watched behind-the-scenes clips from several of DiCaprio’s films to understand his process better.

On Caprio trying too hard to perform

“I tried to find out the reason. Usme mujhe bohot saare behind the scenes milein, kuch ek filmon ke,” Manoj said, revealing that he was focused solely on DiCaprio’s behavior off-camera.

“I was not looking at anything, I was just looking at DiCaprio. And how he is before the shot. What is he doing between the shots. I realised that he is putting in too much. He is… bohot jyaada hard ho raha hain. Isiliye work nahi karta hain.”

Despite the criticism, the veteran Indian actor acknowledged DiCaprio’s dedication and artistic goals.

"His Intent Is Great" — A Balanced Take

Although he pointed out that DiCaprio’s effort might sometimes work against him, Manoj also praised the actor’s genuine commitment to his craft.

“His intent is great. Scorsese uske saath lagatar kaam kar raha hain. Jo woh karna chahta hain, jin cheezon ko woh support karta hain woh push karta in saare directors ke kaam ko…”

What’s Next for Both Stars

Leonardo DiCaprio is slated to appear next in One Battle After Another, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, and is also on board for Martin Scorsese’s upcoming film.

On the other hand, Manoj Bajpayee is gearing up for the release of The Family Man Season 3. He was last seen in Despatch, a gritty crime drama directed by Kanu Behl, currently streaming on ZEE5.
