Nick Jonas faced online backlash after his seemingly lighthearted post on X sparked controversy. The incident began when Nick responded to a tweet from Tesla CEO Elon Musk, which featured a popular GIF of the Jonas Brothers.
What appeared to be a casual interaction quickly turned into a heated discussion, leaving fans upset. Musk, a polarising figure, had shared the GIF alongside a comment about Tesla’s success since Donald Trump won the 2024 presidential election.
Nick Jonas faces backlash
The post Musk retweeted was from the Tesla Owners Silicon Valley account, which claimed that Tesla’s stock had risen “100% since Donald Trump won." Musk added his own comment, writing, “My, how the tables have turned!” and included the GIF of Nick and Kevin Jonas flipping a coffee table. In the original clip, Joe Jonas humorously enters and delivers the line, “Oh, how the tables have turned.”
Nick later reacted to Musk’s tweet by retweeting it with a photo of Musk smiling and the caption, “Take us to the Year 3000,” referencing one of the Jonas Brothers’ most popular songs. While the exchange appeared playful, it didn’t sit well with some fans.

Fans' Reaction
Musk’s recent appointment as co-head of a government department by President-elect Donald Trump, combined with his controversial reputation, made Nick’s post a topic of debate. Some fans accused him of supporting both Musk and Trump, and his comment section quickly filled with criticism.
One user tagged Nick’s wife, actress Priyanka Chopra, and wrote, “Is this a Trump post?! get your man.”
Another person sarcastically commented, “Ahhhhh the Jonases forgot to mention that the reason everyone lives underwater in the Year 3000 is because AI ran the environment into the ground.”
Meanwhile, one user pointed out, “Deleting it wouldn’t change a thing. Besides, we’re all on Elon’s platform interacting…What does that make us? Nick’s ‘joke’ obviously went wrong, but doesn’t mean you should wish for his downfall.”
On the professional front, Nick is preparing for his upcoming role in The Last Five Years, which is set to open on Broadway on March 18.
