Bollywood actor Sonakshi Sinha on Monday hit back at veteran actor Mukesh Khanna after he commented on her 2019 appearance on Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), where she failed to answer a question related to the Ramayana. In response, Mukesh Khanna has now clarified his stance in an interview with News9, stressing that his comments were not intended to be hurtful. 

Mukesh Khanna reacts to Sonakshi’s Response 

Mukesh Khanna expressed surprise at Sonakshi’s delayed reaction to his remarks. He told News9, “I am surprised she took so much time to react. I knew I was antagonising her by taking her name from that incident in the famous Kaun Banega Crorepati show. But I had no malicious intention to malign her or her father who is my senior and I have a very cordial relationship with him.” 

The actor clarified that his intention was to address a broader issue regarding the current generation’s dependence on technology. “My intention was to react on today’s generation, which is called ‘Gen Z’ by elders, which has become slaves to today’s Google world and mobile phones. Their knowledge is limited to Wikipedia and social interactions on YouTube. And here I had a Hi-Fi case in front of me of her which I could use to teach others. Fathers, sons, daughters,” he said. 

The controversy stems from Sonakshi Sinha’s participation in Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 11, where she failed to correctly answer a question about the Ramayana. She was asked to name the person for whom Hanuman brought Sanjeevani booti, but was unable to respond. Mukesh Khanna, in a recent interview with Siddharth Kannan, commented on the incident and went so far as to blame Sonakshi’s father, Shatrughan Sinha, for not teaching her about the epic. 

How Sonakshi had responded

Sonakshi took to her Instagram to respond strongly to Mukesh Khanna’s remarks, calling out his focus on her alone. She wrote, “Dear Sir, Mukesh Khanna ji... I recently read a statement you made saying that it's my father's fault I did not answer a question about the Ramayana correctly on a show I attended many, many years back. Firstly, let me remind you there were two women on the hot seat that day who did not know the answer to the same question, but you choose to keep taking my name, and only my name, for reasons which are quite obvious.” Read her complete statement here.
