Emraan Hashmi Talks About Differences Between Bollywood And South Filmmaking: 'They Are More Disciplined'

Emraan Hashmi—who will co-star with Pawan Kalyan in 'OG', discussed the differences between South and Bollywood films.

New Delhi: Renowned Bollywood actor Emraan Hashmi is set to make his mark in the Telugu film industry with his upcoming movie ‘OG’. After captivating audiences with his performance in Salman Khan's ‘Tiger 3’, Hashmi is ready to take on the challenge of playing an antagonist opposite Pawan Kalyan. In a recent interview, he candidly discussed his journey into South cinema, admitting that it was a realm he never imagined being a part of.

During a conversation with The Times Of India, Emraan Hashmi shed light on the distinct work cultures prevalent in the South Indian and Hindi film industries.

Hashmi highlighted the disciplined approach of Southern filmmakers, noting that their commitment and dedication often result in exceptional cinematic experiences. He said, “I think South filmmakers are way more disciplined than we are (in Hindi cinema). Every penny that they spend on their film shows on screen.”

He went on to say that we (Hindi films) need to make some progress to catch up to the South's films in terms of visual effects and size. “I think we often spend money in the wrong areas in Hindi films, and it doesn’t eventually translate on screen. They have finesse in their films when it comes to VFX, the scale, and the choice of path-breaking stories. We have some ground to cover before we can match that, and we have a lot to learn from the way they make films,” he added.

Emraan is now filming OG, directed by Sujeeth Reddy. Pawan Kalyan and Priyanka Arul Mohan play prominent roles. The film will hit cinemas on September 27, 2024, across Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada.

The actor will also seen in a cameo role in Sara Ali Khan starrer 'Ae Watan Mere Watan'.

The rumour mill has it that Emraan might to join Adivi Sesh in ‘G2’, the follow-up to 2018's smash hit Goodachari. The casting of the film has not been officially confirmed, yet.
