Anil Sharma Shares Priyanka Chopra Was Moving Back To Bareilly After Her Botched Nose Surgery: 'It Wasn't Her Fault'

Gadar director Anil Sharma recently revealed in an interview that he was among the few in the film industry who stood by Priyanka Chopra after her botched nose surgery. Sharma claimed he played a pivotal role in getting Priyanka’s career back on track at a time when she was being fired from multiple films and was on the verge of leaving Mumbai.
How Anil Sharma helped Priyanka Chopra
Speaking with Siddharth Kannan on his YouTube channel, Anil recalled initially misunderstanding the nature of Priyanka’s surgery. “I read somewhere that she did so to look like Julia Roberts so I scolded her also. Then I got to know the truth that this wasn’t the case. She had an issue with her nose, it was a medical operation that went bad so it wasn’t her fault,” he explained.
Anil recounted how the aftermath of the surgery led Priyanka to lose several projects. She was returning token payments and planning to leave Mumbai to recover in Bareilly. However, he intervened just in time.
“At that time, I had already given her a token of Rs 5 lakh. She came with the cheque. She said I have been fired and now I am moving back to Bareilly. They said they were waiting to give my money back. I said you keep the money and I scolded her a bit. She then told me what actually happened with her nose,” he shared.
Anil further elaborated on her family’s decision to return to Bareilly. “She said my father is already back in Bareilly and has rejoined his duty in the army. Her mother said she will also resume her practice. They thought it will take some time for Priyanka to heal so they will come back after a year or so. They were paying so much rent here and they were regular people, not like Ambanis. I told them to stop.”
Sharma then took matters into his own hands, enlisting the help of a veteran makeup artist from Yash Raj Films to address Priyanka’s appearance. He also collaborated with designer Neeta Lulla to refine her costumes and conducted another screen test. “Then I sent that CD and everyone was like ‘Who is this girl?’ It was her luck. Her nose operation going wrong wasn’t her fault and if we can correct it, why shouldn’t we?” he added.
Priyanka eventually starred in Anil Sharma’s The Hero: Love Story of a Spy, alongside Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta, marking an early milestone in her career. She has since enjoyed immense success in Hindi cinema and now primarily works in Hollywood.
