Aaradhya Bachchan Requests HC Her Plea Against Media Be Decided Without...

The Delhi High Court asked Google to respond after Aaradhya Bachchan, requested that her petition be decided without hearing from the YouTube channels that have failed to respond to her plea.

The Delhi High Court on Monday asked Google to respond after Aaradhya Bachchan, the daughter of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan, requested that her petition to remove misleading content about her health be decided without hearing from the YouTube channels that have failed to respond to her plea.

Justice Mini Pushkarna issued a notice following an application by Aaradhya, seeking to proceed ex-parte due to the defendants' non-appearance and requesting a decree in her favor.

The case is scheduled for further hearing on March 17.

This request for a "summary judgment" is part of an ongoing lawsuit involving the minor child and her father. As per a Bar and Bench report, the court has issued a response to her plea for a summary judgement against the spread of misleading online content about the 13-year-old's health.

April 2023 Court Order

In April 2023, the court had granted an interim order prohibiting several YouTube channels from publishing false content about Aaradhya's health, including videos claiming she was "critically ill" or "no longer alive." The court condemned the spreading of disinformation about a child, describing it as "morbid perversity."

Google was ordered to remove specific videos from its platform, and summons were issued to the YouTube channels involved, including "Bollywood Time," "Bolly Pakora," "Bolly Samosa," and "Bollywood Shine," as the court found a prima facie case for granting interim relief to avoid further harm.

The plaintiffs argued that the videos, which made false claims about Aaradhya’s health and personal life, harmed the Bachchan family's reputation. They emphasized that the Bachchan name was protectable as a trademark and symbolized high moral values. The videos, they said, invaded the minor's privacy and were created with the intention of gaining shock value, attention, and profit.

Court Issues Notice To Delhi High Court

Additionally, the Delhi High Court has issued a notice to Google in response to a petition filed regarding the spread of misleading information about Aaradhya Bachchan’s health. The next hearing in the matter will be on March 17.

In her new petition, Aaradhya Bachchan claims that despite the court’s order from April 2023, misleading content about her health has not been fully removed from social media.
