New Delhi: Actor Anupam Kher recently discussed why celebrities may not be as outspoken about their political views today as they once were. In a recent conversation, he used Dev Anand and Vijay Anand as historical examples. Anupam made the observation that celebrities risk offending people by speaking out about their ideas.
The most recent guest on the podcast of the news organisation ANI was Anupam Kher. He joined in to discuss a variety of topics from his career in the field thus far when he was asked about Mumbai's film industry celebrities who keep it subtle when discussing politics so they don't ruffle anyone's feathers.
Talking to Smita Prakash, Anupam Kher said, "Anyone who goes to cast vote becomes political. I think actors have a fan base, people base. In today's time, it can be easily misconstrued. It can easily get into issues. Warna pehle bhi they. There is a certain section of people, Dev Anand Sahab, Vijay Anand Sahab, they supported a particular ideology. They were vocal and saath me kaam hota rehta tha (work existed side by side).”
He continued, "Ab nahi hota (this isn't the same anymore) because everybody is vocal about it on social media. Everybody has groups. So, you can upset people if you are vocal about it." The actor also added that he doesn't want to join a political party.
Touching on boycott trends, 'The Kashmir Files' actor said, "I am not for boycott trends, not at all but you can't stop somebody from doing what they want to do. But if your product is good, it will find its audience. In fact, they will go with a vengeance. And the only way to kill this trend is to make brilliant work.”
Anupam Kher has a number of films in the works. The Vaccine War by Vivek Agnihotri and Emergency by Kangana Ranaut are among the films included. His future ventures include IB 71, The Signature, Kaagaz 2, and Anurag Basu's Metro In Dino.
