Aamir Khan Got ‘Blackout Drunk’ On His 60th Birthday: 'By 9 PM, I Knew That I Was Flying'

Aamir Khan opened up about how his loved ones, including daughter Ira and ex-wife Reena Dutta, threw him a surprise birthday bash and the actor got drunk.

Bollywood icon Aamir Khan may have turned 60 this March, but age clearly hasn't slowed down the memories — even if he can’t remember them himself. Ahead of his milestone birthday, the superstar introduced the media to his new partner, Gauri Spratt, during a pre-birthday interaction. The two have reportedly been dating for over a year now. And while that moment turned heads, it’s what happened at his actual birthday celebration that’s making headlines now.

Aamir Khan shares what happened at his birthday party

In a candid conversation with Mashable India, Aamir opened up about how his loved ones, including daughter Ira and ex-wife Reena Dutta, threw him a surprise birthday bash. While the celebration was filled with warmth and laughter, things took an unexpected turn when the actor decided to bend his no-alcohol rule — just for one night.

“Yaar bohot interesting hua. Ira, Reena, everyone organised a birthday party for me on my 60th. They invited all my loved ones. It was a memorable day, like all the memories will stay with me. I don’t drink much these days, I’ve cut down alcohol consumption to almost zero. But that day, because it was my 60th birthday, everybody insisted that I have a drink. Toh maine kaha theek hai. Aur kyunki mujhe aadat nahi hai, bohot jaldi chadh gayi mujhe aur hua kya, main jab… I’m an extreme person. We started at around 7 pm, and by 9 pm, I knew that I was flying,” Aamir recalled.

Aamir Khan had a blackout

The actor described himself as someone who goes all in — which is exactly what happened. What was supposed to be a celebratory sip or two turned into something far more intense.

“60th birthday hai, sab log encourage bhi kar rahe the toh hum log achhe mood mein the. Hum log bolte hain naa yaar bada memorable day tha, woh memorable tha lekin mujhe memory koi… I have no memory of that day (laughs),” he added, revealing that he suffered a complete blackout. He admitted that while there are videos and pictures of people showering him with love and good wishes, he remembers none of it.

Aamir quit drinking alcohol

Aamir had previously shared in an interview that he quit alcohol after what he calls his “Devdas phase,” a dark period following his 2002 divorce from Reena Dutta. The actor went from being a strict non-drinker to consuming a bottle a day for nearly 18 months. He eventually chose to turn over a new leaf and now only occasionally smokes a pipe.

Despite their past, Aamir and Reena continue to share a cordial relationship and even collaborate professionally. Their children, Ira and Junaid, are now grown and carving their own paths.
