Pakistan ready to hold talks with new Indian government: Qureshi

Qureshi’s remark comes two days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi led BJP towards a colossal victory, making way for his second straight term in office.

New Delhi: Pakistan is ready to hold talks with India to resolve all the outstanding issues, Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said as the BJP-led NDA returned to power with a massive majority in the Lok Sabha elections. Qureshi was addressing an Iftar dinner in Multan on Saturday, when he said that both India and Pakistan should sit on negotiation table to solve issues for the sake of prosperity and peace of the region, Radio Pakistan reported. Qureshi’s remark comes two days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi led BJP towards a colossal victory, making way for his second straight term in office. Imran Khan extended his greetings to PM Modi and congratulated Modi on his electoral triumph and tweeted: “I congratulate Prime Minister Modi on the electoral victory of BJP and allies. Look forward to working with him for peace, progress and prosperity in South Asia.” Imran Khan Government had earlier that India and Pakistan talks would resume after elections, as anti-Pakistan rhetoric fetches vote for the BJP. India-Pakistan ties plunged to new depths after the Pulwama attack and the tensions that followed including aerial engagements between the two countries, after India bombarded terror camps in Pakistan as preemptive precision attack. Pakistan was closely monitoring the Indian elections as well, as the results will determine the course of Indo-Pakistan ties.
