Will Maharashtra Assembly Elections Be Held Next Month? Check What CEC Rajiv Kumar Said

Maharashtra Assembly Elections: The Chief Election Commissioner mentioned that political parties have asked the polling panel to announce election dates while considering festivals like Diwali.

Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2024: The Maharashtra Legislative Assembly elections 2024 will be held before November 26, 2024, the day when the term of the current Vidhan Sabha will end, according to Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar. After reviewing the poll preparedness in Maharashtra along with fellow Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and S S Sandhu, Kumar said that political parties have asked the polling panel to announce the election dates while considering festivals like Diwali.

"We met all stakeholders including political parties and officials ahead of Maharashtra assembly elections. Parties told us to announce Maharashtra assembly polls keeping in mind festivals like Diwali," The CEC said

“In Maharashtra, there are 288 constituencies of which ST constituencies are 25 and ST constituencies are 29. The term of the Maharashtra legislative assembly is ending on 26 November so elections have to be completed before that," he added.

The term of the Maharashtra assembly ends on November 26 and elections are expected to be announced sometime next month. The Election Commission met district electoral officers (DEOs), superintendents of police, municipal commissioners, divisional commissioners and other senior officials of the state government.

The CEC also made it clear that the game of fake news on social media will not be allowed to prevail and directed officials to ensure swift response and action against the menace. He directed DEOs to visit polling stations personally to review all arrangements and asked them to ensure benches for voters in queue, drinking water and parking of vehicles for booths located in congested areas.

The CEC also asked the DEOs to ensure proper signages and directions for guiding voters where multiple polling stations are in one location and sought the status of electoral offences related to FIRs in Lok Sabha elections from superintendents of police and directed review of all cases related to personnel, EVM and social media.
