As of 11 am, a turnout of 19.67 per cent was recorded in Chhattisgarh while 28.18 per cent of voters turned up to exercise their franchise in Madhya Pradesh, according to the Election Commission of India (ECI) data. Meanwhile, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has said that he is not in the race to become the next CM of Madhya Pradesh if the BJP is voted back to power. He further said that this is not the race for CM but for the development of the state, and the people are voting for the saffron party for their progress. The Union Minister for Aviation exuded confidence that the BJP is going to form a majority government.
Violence has also been reported from two polling booths -- 147 and 148 -- of the Dimani Assembly constituency at Mirghan in the Morena district of the poll-bound state where two groups resorted to stone pelting, police said. According to ANI, one person sustained injuries in the incident. Police have said the situation was under control and adequate security deployment has been made after the clashes.
Police have made adequate security arrangements across all the polling booths in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Voting is underway in Chhattisgarh for the phase-2 elections on 70 seats and the main contenders in both states are Congress and BJP.
