Delhi Weather Today: Delhiites Hope For Monsoon Relief To Rub Off On City Amid Intense Heatwave

Delhi Weather Today: On Friday, the maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 44 and 29 degrees Celsius.

Delhi Weather Today: Delhi, which has been reeling under extreme heatwave conditions, with the maximum temperature setting a new record, could see partial relief on Friday. The India Meteorological Department has forecast light rain and thunderstorms, which has brought hopes for some relief to Delhiites. However, the maximum temperature is likely to be above 40°C in most parts and the heatwave conditions, too, are likely to sustain in a few locations for the next five days. According to the IMD forecast, gusty winds at speeds of 25 to 35 kmph could blow over Delhi during the rain and thunderstorms.

The rain and thundershowers are being brought into Delhi by western disturbances, the IMD said earlier.

The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to reach 44 and 29 degrees Celsius, respectively. On Friday, the capital will be on 'Yellow' alert, the IMD said.

This comes a day after Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 45.6 degrees Celsius, 5.2 notches above normal, according to the India Meteorological Department. As per a PTI report, Delhi has been experiencing a heatwave for the last four days. Delhi's relative humidity oscillated between 59 per cent and 13 per cent during the day.

Delhi’s primary weather station, the Safdarjung Observatory, reported the national capital’s second-highest maximum temperature of this summer season. An ‘Orange’ alert was issued for the day.

Delhi's Mungeshpur recorded a maximum temperature of 52.3 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, the highest temperature recorded in the country. However, after posting this data, IMD said in a press release that they are examining the sensors and data of the area's weather station in case of any potential errors. However, the IMD has not issued any report on the inspection of the water sensors in Mungeshpur till now.

Monsoon In India

India on Thursday ushered in the rainy season for 2024 as the IMD announced the onset of southwest monsoon in Kerala and Northeast. Delhi and other parts of northern India, too, can expect the onset of monsoon towards the end of June. Kerala could see the onset of monsoon between June 3 and 8, while Maharashtra could see the same within the following week.

The monsoon's arrival is important for Delhi, as it brings relief from the intense heatwave and replenishes water tables in the region.
