PM Modi Attends Navkar Mahamantra Divas Event, Appeals To People To Take 9 Resolutions. What Are They?

PM Modi said Jainism recognises the importance of interdependence of life and that it bars violence in even its slightest form. He urged the audience to take the message of unity across the country.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday stated that Jainism has played a significant role in building India's identity, stressing that its values offer an answer to the global challenges of terrorism, war, and environmental protection. Addressing an event to mark the 'Navkar Mahamantra Divas', PM Modi asked people to take nine pledges.

The nine resolutions included: saving water, planting a tree in one's mother's memory, promoting cleanliness, going vocal for local, travelling within the country, adopting natural farming, and following a healthy lifestyle by consuming more millets.

Cutting down on edible oil usage by 10 per cent, helping the poor, and incorporating sports and yoga were the other resolutions suggested by PM Modi.

He said the government is committed to preserve the heritage and teachings of the ancient religion and that its influence, including teachings and idols of tirthankaras, can be seen on Parliament's building.

PM Modi further cited a anekantavada, a core doctrine of Jainism that promotes non-absolutism and recognises that ultimate truth can be perceived differently, saying the world needs it as it appreciates various perspectives.

He said that Jainism recognises the importance of interdependence of life, which is why it bars violence in even its slightest form. "This carries the best lesson for peace, harmony and environmental protection," Modi said.

"The Jain literature is the backbone of India's spiritual grandeur," Modi said, adding how the government has been taking several steps to preserve it, including a recent scheme launched by the Centre to digitise the ancient Jain texts and declaring Pali and Prakrit classical languages.

PM Modi then asked the audience to take the message of unity across the country and embrace anyone who chants "Bharat mata ki jai".
