The Mumbai Police has arrested an autorickshaw driver for allegedly raping a 20-year-old woman, who found late on Tuesday at a railway station. Stones and a surgical blade were also found wrapped inside plastic in her vagina.

The police said the accused has been charged with rape. However, the preliminary investigation indicated that there may be another side of the story. Cops believe the woman put the objects in her body herself, reported NDTV.

The police further said that the woman and the autorickshaw driver went to Arnala Beach in Virar and planned to spend the night there. They were unable to get a hotel room as the woman did not have a valid identity card. Therefore, they spent the night on the beach. The police said that the woman might have been raped here. The autorickshaw driver fled the scene of the  alleged crime.

The woman was panic striken at the thought of returning home after spending the night away and having to acknowledge the rape. In order to escape this, she bought a surgical knife and inserted it into her vagina, said the police. They said she might have pushed stones as well in her body.

However, when she felt pain and experienced bleeding, she called the local police. The cops arrived and took her in and filed a rape case against the autorickshaw driver.

The police added that the women inserted foreign objects in her body in order to avoid being scolded and beaten by her parents for being raped by the autorickshaw driver. The young woman resides in Nalasopara with her family, and it is also believed that the woman has mental health issues, as per the police.

Earlier, the woman claimed to be an orphan living in Varanasi under the care of her uncle. She also said that the two had travelled to Mumbai on Sunday. The cops said that her father told them of two rape complaints made by his daughter in 2023 at Mumbai's Nirmal Nagar and Shivaji Nagar.
