Chhattisgarh: 4 Workers Killed, 1 Injured As Coal Hopper Collapses At Alumina Refinery

Ten workers were trapped when the hopper fell, and 4 were killed. The injured worker has been hospitalised. The search and rescue operation has been concluded, with 5 other workers escaping uninjured.

Four workers were killed and one injured after a coal-filled hopper collapsed on them at an alumina refinery in the Surguja district of Chhattisgarh on Sunday, police said.

The incident took place at the Maa Kudargarhi Alumina Refinery in Silsila village around 11 a.m, under the jurisdiction of the Raghunathpur police outpost, an official said, news agency PTI reported. The official reported that a steel tower-mounted hopper filled with coal collapsed, falling onto ten workers below.

A police team quickly arrived at the scene and began a rescue operation. "Bodies of four workers were retrieved from the site, and one worker was found in a critical condition and hospitalised," the official said. The search and rescue operation has been concluded, with five other workers escaping uninjured.

The official confirmed that the identified deceased were Prince Thakur (25) and Manoj Singh Rajput (34), both residents of neighbouring Madhya Pradesh, and Karanveer Manjhi (22), and Ramesnar Manjhi were from Bihar. The police have launched an investigation into the incident.

A hopper is a type of equipment that is used to transport large quantities of goods from one place to another.

2 Persons, Two Oxen Killed As Cart Comes In Contact With Live Wire

Two people and two oxen were killed when a makeshift metal shed while being transported on an ox cart came into contact with an electric line in the Balaghat district of Madhya Pradesh on Sunday, according to police.

The incident took place in the Khara area in the afternoon, an official said, news agency PTI reported.

Chhatrapal Singh Bains, the in-charge of Kirnapur police station, stated that the metal shed touched an 11KV power line, resulting in the deaths of two people, identified as Vitthal Khairwar and Dugesh Panche, and injuring another individual.

The injured person is currently undergoing treatment at the district hospital, he added. Two oxen also died from electrocution, Bains said.

Rajendra Bopche, the Sarpanch of Khara, stated that the accident happened because the power line was hanging very low.
