Thought It Was Cool: Zerodha's Nikhil Kamath On Previously Considering Adopting A child

Elaborating on his preference for adoption, Nikhil Kamath expressed that he considered it "cool" at the time. "Just like that. I thought it was cool at that time"

Nikhil Kamath has recently shared that, despite his current stance of not wanting to have children, he previously contemplated adopting a child and thoroughly investigated the feasibility of such a decision. During a candid conversation on his podcast, WTF, the co-founder of Zerodha, revealed, "At one point in life, I had a phase where I wanted to adopt a child. And I actually tried... I researched it." However, he mentioned that during his research, he discovered that current regulations made it impossible for a single Indian man to adopt a child.

Elaborating on his preference for adoption, Nikhil Kamath expressed that he considered it "cool" at the time. "Just like that. I thought it was cool at that time. See, most of the things we do (are) because we think they are cool, right?"

In the same episode, the billionaire further mentioned that he doesn't hold strong sentiments about having children to carry on his "legacy" and that he isn't keen on dedicating two decades of his life to "babysitting," only to hope for good treatment from his children in his old age.

"This is also partly why I don't have kids," Kamath said. I'm going to ruin 18-20 years of my life babysitting this child, and then, if luck serves me right, the reverse will happen at some point. What if he says 'scr** you' at 18 and leaves anyway,” the 37-year-old entrepreneur said.

When questioned about leaving a legacy behind, Kamath disclosed that he does not subscribe to the concept. "I think we all feel that we are more important than we actually are... you are born, and you die like every other animal on the planet, and then you are gone, and nobody remembers anybody," he added.

Kamath further expressed his belief that it is vain to have children solely to be remembered after death. "What's the point in being remembered (after death)? I feel like you should come, you should live well, you should be nice to the people you meet in your life," he elaborated.
