Zerodha's Nikhil Kamath Says Gaming Should Be Thought Of As 'Serious Career Option' Now

The start-up head urged everyone to give serious thought to the gaming industry as a profession and a lucrative career path

The gaming industry has made a unique place for itself in the country with several young Indians pursuing their passion and trying to make a name for themselves in the sector. The activity is no longer a hobby for people, rather, has become an active and lucrative career path for many.

Recently, Zerodha Co-founder Nikhil Kamath also agreed with this sentiment and said gaming deserves to be considered as a ‘serious career option’ now. The start-up head called on everyone to give serious thought to the gaming industry as a profession.

Sharing his thoughts in a post on the social media networking platform, LinkedIn, the trading platform head said, “This isn't just a hobby anymore but a serious career option that deserves validation from parents and institutions alike.”

“What worked in the last 20 years will likely not work in the next 20. Interactive forms of entertainment are increasingly taking market share, let's all give the gaming industry the importance it deserves,” Kamath said in his post.

The post received a lot of positive comments, where users agreed with Kamath’s opinion and praised him for bringing attention to the industry’s potential.

“This industry has always been looked at as a bad option for a career , The main reason being people are not educated about the scope it helds. The Gaming Industry holds a lot of potential in it , opening a variety of job opportunities and market valuation is ever-growing,” one user commented.

Another user suggested to include more parents in the conversation and wrote, “I strongly suggest you to get a panel of Parents, Academia and the Gaming founders from diverse formats/genres as Part 2 of this podcast and may be some policy makers/Govt representatives for an added bonus. When Sharma Aunty's son makes a career out of Gaming & makes the village proud, Gaming in India will truly arrive!”
