Tesla Layoffs: EV Maker Fires Entire 'Growth Content' Marketing Team Established A Year Ago, Says Report

Tesla Layoffs: The report claims that substantial layoffs were reported in Tesla's design studio and among staff based in Hawthorne, California

Tesla Layoffs: Tesla has reportedly Laid off a recently established marketing department as part of broader company layoffs, marking a departure from a conventional advertising strategy that CEO Elon Musk had approved less than a year ago.

As a part of the ongoing job reductions, the entire US "growth content" team, consisting of approximately 40 employees under the supervision of senior manager Alex Ingram, was terminated, according to a Bloomberg report citing sources. Both Ingram and Jorge Milburn, who headed the global team, were let go; in addition, the company retains a small group of marketing personnel in Europe, as per the report.

The report claims that substantial layoffs were reported in Tesla's design studio and among staff based in Hawthorne, California.

These reductions signal a step back from Tesla's early-stage advertising endeavours. Historically, the automaker had refrained from utilising television, radio, print, or online advertisements instead, it cultivated a strong brand primarily through word-of-mouth. However, last year, Musk announced Tesla's intention to "try a little advertising and see how it goes." Ingram commenced the establishment of the growth team around four months ago.

The restructuring within Tesla's growth team highlights the extensive impact of the company's most significant workforce reduction to date, as announced by Musk last week, affecting over 10 per cent of the global workforce. According to a recent reports, the CEO has advocated for a more substantial reduction of up to 20 per cent, potentially resulting in the elimination of over 20,000 positions.

Musk reportedly said: "As we prepare the company for our next phase of growth, it is extremely important to look at every aspect of the company for cost reductions and increasing productivity. As part of this effort, we've done a thorough review of the organisation and made the difficult decision to reduce our headcount by more than 10 per cent globally. There is nothing I hate more, but it must be done."
