Uttar Pradesh Spent Rs 5,000 Crore On Maha Kumbh 2025, But Will Earn This Staggering Amount

Maha Kumbh 2025: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is confident that the 40 crore visitors at the Maha Kumbh 2025 will be a bog push to the state's economy.

Maha Kumbh 2025: The Maha Kumbh, which is scheduled to begin in five days on January 13, is the biggest event in Uttar Pradesh — not just on a religious and spiritual scale, but also on an economic scale. With more than 40 crore devotees expected at the mega-festival, or 'mahaparv', the Yogi Adityanath government treasury is likely to earn almost 8% of its GDP.

The UP administration is on high alert and is prepared to deal with emergencies. Special arrangements have been made to ensure that pilgrims coming to the Maha Kumbh do not face any inconvenience. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is personally monitoring the preparations for the Maha Kumbh.

How Much Revenue Will Maha Kumbh 2025 Generate?

CM Yogi Adityanath said on Wednesday that Maha Kumbh 2025, is expected to generate an economic growth of up to Rs 2 lakh crore in the state. He further said, "The Maha Kumbh is a symbol of India's spiritual and cultural heritage. This event provides an opportunity for people from India and the world to take pride in their ancient traditions and understand their cultural roots."

The CM said that the aim of this event is not only to encourage religious faith but also to provide inspiration and guidance for future generations. He said that the central and state governments are continuously striving to make this event successful and convenient in the presence of saints.

Grand, Divine, Digital Maha Kumbh'

Yogi Adityanath said that this time's Maha Kumbh will be a grand, divine and digital event. Digital tourist maps, security systems linked to artificial intelligence (AI) and a system for assessing the cleanliness of toilets through smartphones have been arranged for the convenience of pilgrims.

The Chief Minister said that when pilgrims come to the state, they spend on transportation, accommodation, food and other services, which boosts local businesses and employment. He said that in 2024, more than 16 crore pilgrims visited Kashi Vishwanath in Kashi, while the number of pilgrims in Ayodhya from January 2024 to September was more than 13.55 crore. Special attention has been paid to environmental protection in the organization of the Maha Kumbh.

CM Yogi Aditynath said that state-of-the-art STPs (Sewage Treatment Plants) and 'bio-remediation' methods are being used to prevent any kind of dirty water from entering the Ganga and Yamuna rivers. Also, more than 1.5 lakh toilets have been built to have minimum impact on the environment.

To generate the Rs 2 lakh crore revenue, the UP government has spent around Rs 5,000 crore, according to The Times Of India.

UP's 2025 Fiscal Target

Byouyed by the inauguration of Ayodhya Ram Mandir inauguration in January 2024, Uttar Pradesh's Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) grew by 8% and rose to 25.48 lakh crore in 2023-24, up from 22.58 lakh crore in the previous fiscal year.

GSDP is the total value of all goods and services produced within a state's borders during a specific period of time.

UP is now looking at a fiscal target of Rs 32 lakh crore by March 2025. UP has had the Global Investors Summit to drive its growth prospects. During the Summit, UP secured investment proposals worth Rs 40 lakh crore, which would generate employment for 1.5 crore youth of the state.

Steelware exports from Moradabad, sports goods exports from Meerut, and Bhadohi's carpet exports have also driven UP's economy. CM Yogi has also credited UP's growth story to the "elimination of Mafia".

Debt-To-GSDP Ratio A Concern For UP

Uttar Pradesh is the second-largest economy in the country, contributing 9.2% to national income. However, all is not well in Uttar Pradesh. The state’s rising public debt has become a major problem area for the Yogi Adityanath government. The Debt-To-GSDP Ratio increased to 26% from 2019-2024. The economy grew by 42% during the same period.

By the end of the last fiscal year, UP's total debt stood at nearly Rs 6.7 lakh crore. A CAG report pointed out that the trend of market borrowings had increased in the last few years.

The Uttar Pradesh government, on the other hand, says that it is a revenue-surplus state. "In the last seven years, per capita income has increased from Rs 47,118 to Rs 93,514. The state's fiscal deficit has been 2.86% as against the limit of 3.50% prescribed in the FRBM Act," a government handout read.
